Thank you for taking the time to visit Canterbury Lions Web site - We are frequently asked who are the Lions, and what do we do!
The Lions are ordinary people who work together to achieve amazing things. Lions Clubs International is an International network of over 1.35 million men and women. There are over 45,000 clubs in 206 countries. But although we are a large organisation each club is autonomous.
What we do is far more difficult to explain, basically our aim is dedicated to the welfare of others less fortunate from mowing a lawn to international disasters and we give our time freely.
The Lions of the British Isles and Ireland, along with European colleagues, give over 5.7million hours of service each year. £88million is gifted annually to projects.
During the last year Canterbury Lions have helped a disabled person paint the inside of her house. We have helped thirty different recipients and made donations to Kent Multiple Sclerosis Centre, Pilgrims Hospice and Odyssey. Together with other clubs throughout the world we helped to set up three tented villages providing shelter, food and water, for those unfortunate people in Haiti.
Of course to enable us to continue with this word we have to raise funds. We do this in various ways such as:- our Sponsored Knit, Big Band concert, Christmas Float and this year a Lonnie Donegan tribute concert. But we also aim to have fun whilst doing so! As a member of Canterbury Lions Club you become aware of the needs of your local community and beyond. Being a Lion allows you to help others in a way that no one person could do alone. A few hours a month, multiplied around the world makes a big difference in all communities.
